You Are Light Enlightenment Illumination
Light is one of the words used to describe an attribute or aspect of God. Light, Love, Life, Peace, etc. I know the bible has been translated and retranslated hundreds of times, yet still, throughout, you will find scripture telling how Jesus described God and himself using just those words. The word Light is used so many times, it would take an entire night to recite them all to you. Jesus called himself the light of the world. And he didn't say that just he, or God were Light -- he also said that we -- you and me -- are light. In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus is reported to have said, "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle. and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick, and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Interesting passage, especially when you think about another verse that says we should pray and do our good works in secret. It isn't being said to bring others attention to what you are doing, it's saying let what you are doing catch the attention of others. Let your good works be so obvious, that you are a living example of goodness or Godness. Emerson said "What you are shouts so loudly that I cannot hear what you say." Let what you shout be the attributes of God -- Light, Love, Truth, Peace, etc. Now obviously, God, being the Creator of all, does not require glorification from its creation. If God needed to be glorified or worshipped, I'd say we had a God with a self-esteem or ego problem. In traditional religious belief systems, when you come upon the concept of glorifying God, what is really happening is that we are recognizing God. If you read your Sunday morning program each week, you see that recognition is the first of five steps in our metaphysical practice. (In New Thought churches such as Religious Science or Science of Mind.) When we do good works which glorify God, we are recognizing God. Here we experience the first conscious contact with God, the beginning of illumination. This is like a spark. Everything unlike light comes up for release, as in temptation. Guard this spark well. Don't be tempted to give up in the face of all that is unlike like that comes up for release. Next, this spark is kindled into a flame, through unification with God. In Matthew 6:22-23, Jesus is reported as saying "The light of the body is the eye; if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!" Unification is the process of joining together that which previously seemed separated. We do this through perception. The eye symbolizes spiritual perception. Attention is the key. Your free will lies in the directing of your attention. The outcome or result of perception is the body, or our experience of physical form. Body is the body of experience. Your whole body, or embodiment. As the exchange becomes stronger, it leads to communion, that flowing of energy from our consciousness to the consciousness of God. We enjoy the feeling of the Love of God touching us and our love for God returning to God. This is the realization of God. We have realized our union with God and there is no longer two, but one. We realize as we place our attention on God that I am you. These moments of union may be few, but they are precious, for they reveal the world as it truly is. Our humanhood is like a huge mountain of dirt. We remove the earthly matter shovel full by shovel full, until there is no longer any human self, just pure light, a living, breathing transparency through which the Light or God performs Its might works. Then we are no longer the doer or the actor, we are the vacuum through which Spirit flows. We now see the world through lighted consciousness. This illumination does not improve the world, it only improves our vision of the world, we begin to see more clearly, or see the world more nearly as it really is. We become the light of the world in proportion ot our degree of illumination. Meditation leads to illumuniation, which is first communion, then union with God. It is realization of our relationship to God. Christ Light. Christ is individual consciousness purged of all fear, hate or evil (error) of any nature. Christ is the Spirit of God, of Jesus, of you and of me. We often say we are going from darkness to light. There is a beautiful lesson in a Course in Miracles, lesson 302 "Where darkness was I look upon the light." "Father, our eyes are opening at last. Your holy world awaits us, as our sight is finally restored and few can see. We thought we suffered. But we had forgot the Son whom You created. Now we see that darkness is our own imagining, and light is there for us to look upon. Christ's vision changes darkness into light, for fear must disappear when love has come. Let me forgive Your holy world today, that I may look upon its holiness and understand it but reflects my own." It is your forgiveness that will bring the world of darkness to the light. It is your forgiveness that lets you recognize the light in which you see. Forgiveness is the demonstration that you are the light of the world. Through your forgiveness does the truth about yourself return to your memory. Therefore, in your forgiveness lies your salvation. A very key statement in this passage is about forgetting the Son whom God created. There is only one Son, that means you and me, since God is OUR Divine Father/Mother. We forgot who we are. It's not something we have to remember. How do you remember something? I usually remember something I seem to have forgotten by releasing it. Then suddenly, without warning, it pops into my head. Enlightenment is very much like that. It comes suddenly, without warning. You cannot plan for the day of enlightenment. Forgiveness brings the world of darkness to the light. Notice you do not bring the light into darkness. Light is everywhere present, remember? We must bring darkness to light. In the chapter of Matthew quoted earlier, he says that if therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!" In other words, he is saying that darkness is a kind of light! Of course it is, it is Light that is clouded with forgetfulness. It is Light that does not remember it is God! That is why there is nothing to get rid of or change. There is only the mountain of humanity to dig through to discover the divinity within. You are Light. That has never changed. You walk enlightenment when you lighten up, give up your earthly load, let go and let God shine through you, as you, in you, for you. Forgiveness is the key to salvation means that you are for giving. That is your function. Give of yourself to the All That Is in any way you can. Give of the Love and Light and Truth that is within you. The world is hungry for light, since your fellow brothers and sisters think they live in darkness. Begin by recognizing God as Light. Then join your consciousness with God consciousness and you will become illuminated. Then truly you will see yourself as the light of the world, in realization of truth. Then you can express gratitude, give thanks for the beauty that you are now able to see. When you are illuminated by the Light of God, you are able to release others from the previous limited vision you perceived them through. Light is understanding, and understanding is the joining of our hearts and our minds in perfect vision of the Truth. Joel Goldsmith wrote a beautiful passage which is printed in the front of all his books it is this... Illumination dissolves alll material ties and binds men together with the golden chains of spiritual understanding; it acknowledges only the leadership of the Christ; it has no ritual or rule but the divine, impersonal universal Love; no other worship than the inner Flame that is ever lit at the shrine of spirit. This union is the free state of spiritual brotherhood. The only restraint is the discipline of the soul, therefore we know liberty without license; we are a united universe without physical limited; a divine service to God without ceremony or creed. The illumined walk without fear, by Grace.
